In the town of Santander, Cantabria, there is a large stretch of the most well-known beaches, which make up the group of the Sardinero Beaches.The Sardinero Beaches consist of the Camello Beach, the Concha Beach, and the First and Second Beach of Sardinero which are separated by the Gardens of Piquio. They are all beaches with very fine sand, prepared for the enjoyment of swimmers and also including limited areas for playing games.
The Concha Beach is one of the most popular ones, as it is located downtown of Santander and is accessed by some steps which go down from the promenade. N.B. Dont get confused with the Concha Beach of San Sebastian.
Santander has a beautiful mix of green landscapes and beaches. The north of the city has recently been considered as natural park, which we can visit to observe the bird migration in season, and also nearby are the Natural Park Dunas de Liencres and the Park Cabárceno which is the largest zoo in Europe. This is to mention only some of the local tourist attractions. As for the city itself, Santander has retained some of its old town which was partly destroyed in 1941 by a fire: you can still visit the restored Gothic Cathedral and the archaeological sites that are in the Roman-era Chapel of the Holy Christ.
The city is home to many students and offers a great nightlife during the whole year. The calmest environment is on Carmen Street, but there is something for everyone. Santalucía is one of the most exclusive pubs to have a cool drink but you must go well dressed.To have much more fun, go to the informal local Cañadio at whose Square the youth will meet in summer. Some areas of the town, like Rio de la Pila Street, are now best avoided because in recent years they have turned into an areas of possible conflict which can sour your Santander
