• Little India: This neighbourhood is testament to the city’s vibrant diversity. It's a deeply historic centre for Indian migrants and home to some excellent, and affordable, local eateries. The city’s oldest Hindu temple, Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, is found here.
• Orchard Road: This futuristic neighbourhood is primarily a shopping district. It’s where you’ll find the world’s most luxurious fashion brands housed in modern shopping malls. Check out the views from the ION Sky Observatory.

Singapore offers a great blend of museums, galleries and entertainment. Sticking to the old Colonial District, you'll find a wealth of old architectural sites, including the National Gallery of Singapore and the Asian Civilisations Museum. In Chinatown, you'll want to indulge your senses at the market stalls, but be sure to check out the excellent Baba House museum while you're there too. Out on Sentosa Island, you'll find the captivating Fort Siloso, a remnant from British colonial times which now offers excellent historical displays. That’s not to mention the many fantastic parks, including the iconic Singapore Botanic Gardens, Gardens by the Bay and Southern Ridges park. Singapore is renowned for its makan (food) and is a must-visit for many food lovers. You can find a decent meal just about anywhere, from the simplest of street food to top-floor Michelin restaurants. You'll find street food located in kopitiams, or food courts, where you can take your pick from classics like wanton mee (noodles with wantons), bak chor mee (minced meat noodles) and mantous (buns). Laksa, a Chinese-meets-Malay dish, is another speciality among many other fantastic fusion options. Singapore is also renowned for its desserts, including simple dishes like ice kacang and fresh durian fruit.

You can expect a wide variety of religious and cultural festivals which span Hindu, Chinese and Islamic traditions. Chinese New Year is particularly renowned in the city, complete with delicious feasts, performances and fireworks. Then there's the Dragon Boat Race, Singapore's world-famous festival hosted in May/June. Singapore's National Day is celebrated with parades and fireworks on August 9. There are also plentiful art and culture festivities, including the Singapore Arts Festival (June/July) and Arts in the Park (July).

Singapore is one of the best-connected cities in the world. You can jump easily between MRT trains and buses with an EZ-Link travel card. You can also navigate the city very easily with a smartphone app. Taxis are also relatively cheap.
